Montreal Canadiens 2017-18 season will go down as one of the worst in club history. In fact this season marked second-lowest point total in modern franchise history, and this is with loser points awarded!!
With many injuries plaguing the team, there was a revolving door of call-ups, waiver pick ups and more.
Below are the other set of players who made their Canadiens debut in 2017-18.
#20 Nicolas Deslauriers
Nicolas Deslauriers came over from Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Zach Redmond, and sent to Laval. A mid-season call-up from Laval, Deslauriers had a career-year. Deslauriers chose #20, the most worn jersey # in club history, as 65 former players have worn it. Ironically, Zack Redmond, for whom Deslauriers was trade for, wore it last in 2016-17.
#42 Byron Froese
Being short at centre (no pun intended), the Canadiens relied on Laval call-up Byron Froese. Montreal is Froese’s third organization; playing with Toronto and Tampa previously. First time Froese wears #42 at the NHL level. A number last worn the last two seasons by Sven Andrighetto.

Noah Juulsen was the Canadiens’ top draft pick (26th overall) in the 2015 Entry Draft. Juulsen was injured at start of the season and after rehab, spent the majority of the season in Laval (AHL). With the Canadiens decimated by injuries in 2017-18, Juulsen was a late-season call up and surprised many. Juulsen wore #58 throughout his development camp and rookie camp. A number that stuck with him at the NHL level. And Juulsen is in unique company. Only two other players have worn this number in franchise history. David Desharnais, And Sven Andrighetto.
#45 Kerby Rychel
Kerby Rychel was picked up from the Toronto Maple Leafs at the trade deadline in the trade that sent Tomas Plekanec to Toronto. Rychel was given #45. Worn previously by 7 former Habs. Gilbert Dionne wore it for 5 seasons. No. 45 was last worn by Mark Barberio during the 2015-17 seasons.
#17 Rinat Valiev
Rinat Valiev too was acquired from Toronto in the Tomas Plekanec trade. He didn’t see too much action with the Canadiens because he was injured in the first game he played with the club. Valiev was given no, 17, a number worn by 50 other players before him. The longest tenured Canadiens players to wear #17 include Rod Langway, Craig Ludwig, John LeClair, and Benoit Brunet.
