Here’s a quick update to a feature I always run, in what’s in a Number, in this case, NHL players making their debut as a member of the Montreal Canadien, and the number they have chosen.
This month, due to a slew of injuries, Ken Agostino, Michael Chaput, and Brett Kulak made their debut as a Canadien.
#43 – Michael Chaput
Michael Chaput was a UFA signing , who played with the Vancouver Canucks last season. The Canadiens is the fourth NHL organization Chaout has played for, with previous stops with Philadelphia who drafted him, Columbus, and Vancouver.
Prior to wearing #43, Chaput wore #39 and #45. Only 6 other Canadiens have worn #43 over the century + history of the Canadiens. Patrice Brisebois wore it for 13 seasons (1991-2004). Last two seasons, Daniel Carr wore it.
#47 – Kenny Agostino
Kenny Agostino was another UFA pick up in the off-season. Agostino played for Boston Bruins for parts of last season. #47 marks the seventh time a player has worn the jersey. Stefan Lebeau was the first, wearing it for five seasons from 1989 – 1994. The last player to wear it was Alexandre Radulov during the 2016017 season.

#17 – Brett Kulak
Finally, defenceman Brett Kulak too was signed as a UFA out of the Calgary Flames organization. Kulak has a handful of NHL experience on the blue line. Although #17 has been worn by 33 players of the years, 1979-1995, only three players had worn it; Rod Languay, Craig Ludwig, and John LeClair. In recent years, Torrey Mitchell wore it for parts of three seasons, and last season Rinat Valiev work it for a handful of games.
