Habs Recipe Found
-- by Tony Colasurdo;
One game is surely no measuring cup to assess the current playoff drive of the Montreal Canadiens,
but after last night's come-from-behind performance one can't help but to realize that the 4th place
Habs of early February are knocking on the cutting board.
Any avid habs fan must have had a smile on his/her face
today with the realization that Carbonneau has finally found the recipe to success. Representing over 10 million dollars
worth in salary on the bench with the sidelining of Kovalev, Samsonov and Bonk, the chemistry of the young
and relatively inexperienced clan of players left to play last night's game demonstrated that they
were capable of simmering their efforts from medium heat to boil when sift came to shove.
Whether it was
the non-deliberate collision with Begin on Di Pietro or Komisarek's warrior type blood dripping brow,
something happened last night to awake the gentle giants in Latendresse, Kostisyn and Plekanec.
The Habs did not just win the game, but they sent a message that was loud and clear to coach Carbonneau.
Almost as if it were being finger pointed at by every single hab who played yesterday, the obvious was made
clear. The Canadiens do not need expensive gourmet sideliners to win. If yesterday's game roster has shown the
type of success, seldom seen over the last 20 games, then why not stick with it? If kovalev's vertigo happens to be
miraculously cured by tomorrow, does that alone give Carbo the right to reinsert him into the lineup and alter the recipe?
The hidden poison that Samsonov spoon heaped in this mix has taught Carbo to just remove him all together as an
ingredient to his team chemistry. After a rather disastrous
2005-2006 season with the Habs, Bonk is the only
player (sidelined by the flu) that I would consider re-implementing into the mix. This season he has flourished
into a gritty, relentless force that lines the habs losses with hope and victories with a pinch of toughness.
In my oppinion, I would play the exact same roster on Friday against the Pens. If they happen to show the same
success, the Leafs should have a stinging welcome to the grand ville on Saturday.
If the recipe works, stick with it!
