Back from St. Patrick's Day / Habs festivies weekend
-- by Ray;
Well a little blog on the trip too Montreal this past weekend, actually it started in Ottawa Thursday night with the Isles and Sens. The game was boring and the atmosphere wasn't much but the outcome was a good, especially with the Isles losing. How they are ahead of us, I can't figure out. The only guy that stood out was Smyth but thats only because he is always where the puck is, in front of the net. Witt is a pilon that guy is slow and doesn't make smart easy plays. Richard Zednik, will probably be playing in Slovakia next year, this guys game has gone down the toilet. As for the Sens, they can really pass the puck around. I thought we were hard on our d-man on this site, but man the Ottawa fans are really hard on Wade Redden, all around us they were calling him a bum and other names. The Sens could make some noise in the playoffs but it will be if they get better goaltending and make it passed the Pens. One side note, had dinner at Marshy's before the game and met Brad Marsh, still limping around, all those injuries have caught up to him.
On to Montreal, started Friday and quite a few drinks at various pubs on Crescent St. even at 1 in the afternoon the buzz around the city was electric. Then on to the Cages to watch the Pens and Habs. The place was packed the food was great but ABBY sucks. This guy should never play another game for us. Its such a great feeling to watch a Habs game with so many other Habs fans. At least the Leafs lost and we got to cheer somewhat. The atmosphere for that game was amazing. Even the Leafs fans watching there team on one of the other TVs were cheering and booing.
Saturday, started by going to the Pepsi Forum ( thanks to all that helped me out about what was going on there, and YES it is open) Bowled a few games and looked around at all the old pictures and statues they have there. I recommend it to anyone wanting to see some neat Habs stuff. At least they did something with the Old building, not like the Maple Leaf Gardens. Then onto the Cages on Rene Levesque for dinner before the game. The place was packed and the cheering was going back and forth. Then onto the game, the place was electric and the hair on the back of my neck was standing. Met one of the guys from RDS (can't remember his name, but he is the guy that interviews the players before and inbetween periods) told him how great it is that people in Ontario can get RDS and what a great job they do. Then onto our seats.
We were up high but I wouldn't want it any other way, the real fans are up there. We had a great section with alot more Habs fans and a few Leaf fans mixed in. We got on the big screen and won a few beers from the Ex girls. After Halak made the big save the one Hab from behind us jumped so high he fell into our row, but it was all good and the night couldn't of ended any better. If you ever get the chance to see a Habs vrs Leafs game in Montreal, I suggest you go. I doesn't get any better. To top it off, it was St. Patty's day and the party was just beginning.
Highlights of the game:
Boullion, by far his best game, we need this guy to play like this all the time. The fight with Tucker, and the big hit against him in the corner were awesome. Someone mentioned they thought is was Souray, no in fact it was Bouillon. Then Tucker lies on the ice like he got shot. Man I hate that guy. Ryder gets hammered by Coloiavco (sp?), but gets right up and doesn't whine.
Kostitsyn, this kid came to play, hopefully there is more of this to come.
Gorges, I like this kid, he played excellent and will only get better, he makes the first pass better then anyone on this team. Great trade Gainey
Halak, thank god for you. Abby should never see the ice again. We could of had 4 out of 4 pts. if it wasn't for Abby. We deserved to beat the Pens.
Anyways what a great weekend. Ps - MC they didn't boo Kovy in our area, just the Leaf fans that came into our section
